DON’T DO WHAT I DID

business blog Feb 22, 2020

How many times have you put something off because you felt you just weren’t ready to do it.

You weren’t prepared enough or you hadn’t done as much research as you might have wanted to. (Ah more research - this is my favorite one - guilty here!)

Well, I’m slightly embarrassed to admit that I’ve been putting off adding video content to my website for um, the first two years it was public!

Trust me, I see the irony here. I’ve been a tv producer and director for almost 15 years at this point.

This is what I do.

So you have to know that the lack of video content on my website wasn't by accident. I’ve literally avoided doing any sort of video for two main reasons:

1 - I’M NOT A FAN OF BEING ON CAMERA.

Never have been.

I love my seat right behind the camera where I can be in control and see everything that’s going on.

2 - THE NEED FOR IT TO BE PERFECT PARALYZED ME.

Obviously, both are transparent excuses but reasons enough that I’ve procrastinated this long.

By far the biggest roadblock was the need for it to be just right.

Knowing that this is what I do for a living and I would be judged because of that totally got in my head.

It was much more painless for me to avoid putting any video up because that way, no one could judge it.

But here's the thing. People will judge anyways.

They’ll judge what I've written, judge what my website looks like, judge what I post on social... all of it.

I mean you’re probably judging me right now as you read this and you know what ?

I'm not mad at ya! ;)

The truth is, it doesn't matter.

We can let the fear of being judged or feeling like we're not ready prevent us from doing what we want OR we can say the hell with it, try it anyways and see what happens.

So with that, the crew is booked, hair and makeup starts at 7am and as you’re reading this I’ll be shooting the first video for my website.

FINALLY.

OK, Your Turn

I don’t want you to do what I did so comment below with one thing that you know you want to do but have been seriously procrastinating on?

And bonus question - what’s the first step you can take to get started?
